Block printing and garments are a big part of their economy, especially popular with tourists. Industry has increased and extended to more modern industries, including metal utensils, bicycle parts, ink and sporting goods. There is also a light industry that includes glass jewellery and cutlery, as well as gypsum and salt.

There are several defence, police and security force centres who have training institutions outside of the city, such as the Indian Air Force, Indian Army and Border Security Force maintain training centres in Jodhpur.

Jodhpur is also a very popular place for television and advertising shoots, there are beautiful gardens and parks, two major outdoor sport stadiums and several schools, colleges and universities. Healthcare is good and the infrastructure, while very old, is good.

There are many heritage hotels in the city as well as guesthouses, boutique hotels and chain hotels too. The service industry is enormous.
